Casablanca Upon arrival at Mohammed V airport in Casablanca, you will explore Ain Diab’s coastal Cornish. Non-Muslims may visit the Hassan II mosque, the world’s second-largest mosque. You will stay at a hotel in Casablanca.
After breakfast, you will visit Rabat, Morocco’s political and administrative capital. The Oudaia Kasbah, Hassan Tower, and Chellah Necropolis are all worth a visit in Rabat. You will then drive across the Rif Mountains to Wazzan and stay in a guest home or hotel in Chefchaouen, Morocco’s “blue” city.
After breakfast, you will traverse the Rif Mountains to Volubilis, with its Basilica, mosaic of Diana and the Bathing Nymphs, and Triumphal Arch. Continue to Meknes to witness Bab Mansour el-Aleuj (Gate of the Victorious Renegade), considered the best gate in Morocco. After seeing the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum and medina, you will head to Fes for an overnight stay at a hotel or Riad.
A local guide will show you Fes, established 1,000 years ago by the second Moulay Idriss. From the Royal Palace gate, your trip takes you through the narrow medina alleyways to the Jewish Quarter and Tanneries. This trip includes the Bou Inania Medersa and Karaouiyine Mosque. You will also view Moroccan pottery at the cooperative. In the afternoon, you will drive to the Medina’s panoramic view and the new city to see contemporary Fes.
After breakfast, drive to Fes across the Middle Atlas. We’ll travel via “Little Switzerland” Ifrane. Azrou, a Berber carpet market town, follows. You’ll encounter Barbary apes in Morocco’s biggest Cedar Forest. After lunch, you’ll traverse the Atlas Mountains by a tiny pass and arrive at your Midelt hotel for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, you will travel to the Sahara Desert through Erfoud, famous for its November date festival. Merzouga welcomes visitors with mint tea. Join a Berber family for lunch to learn about their culture. Afternoon camel rides over the sand dunes will lead you to a Bedouin tent where you’ll spend the night enjoying the desert’s vastness and stillness.
You’ll wake up early to experience the best dawn of your life on a camel. Afterward, you’ll ride back to your hotel for breakfast and a shower. You’ll then travel to the Potential Lake to see its abundant birdlife. You’ll also visit Khamlia to witness the music and culture of the Gnaoua. In the afternoon, you’ll circle the Erg Chebbi sand dunes and explore the dark Hamada desert, meeting nomads and learning about nomadic life over mint tea.
After breakfast, you will head to Erfoud, the fossil town. Crystal, semi-precious, and fossil booths are here. Visit Usine de Marmara. You’ll leave Erfoud via the Todra Gorge, a tiny passage with 300m (985ft) rocks.
Today, we will embark on an off-road adventure to explore the Dades Valley and the Valley of Roses. The local nomads reside in caves and tents, and we will witness the spring harvests at El-Kelaa M’Gouna that produce up to 4000 tonnes of rose petals for rosewater or perfume. In May, we will experience the Rose Festival. The Dades Valley is home to several Kasbahs, and we will pass by them on our way to Skoura. The palm grove and Kasbahs of Skoura are among southern Morocco’s most picturesque sights. We can either take a stroll or admire the most impressive Kasbah/Amerhidil. Ouarzazate, the Hollywood of Africa, has the stunning Taourirt Kasbah and Atlas Film Studios. We will spend the night in a Kasbah or riad.
After breakfast, we will head north to visit Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, the most famous and photographed Kasbah in Morocco. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the best-preserved Kasbah in the country and has been the filming location for many famous movies, such as Lawrence of Arabia, The Sheltering Sky, and Gladiator. The Tizi-n-Tichka Pass, the highest point in Morocco at 2260m (7417ft), will take us across the Atlas Mountains, and we will marvel at the stunning countryside and Berber communities. We will arrive in Essaouira in the late afternoon, where we will spend the night in a riad or hostel.
After breakfast, we will travel to Marrakech, passing by many Argan trees that are economically and environmentally vital to the region. We will see goats eating fruit and leaves from the trees, a common sight in the area. The Women’s Co-operative of Argan Oil will teach us about the oil’s various uses, from cosmetics to medical purposes. After lunch in Marrakech’s new city, we will check into our Medina riad. In the afternoon, we will visit Jemaa el Fna, where we will see fortune tellers, snake charmers, acrobats, and musicians. We will spend the night in a Medina riad.
