Spend the morning exploring Tangier. This afternoon head just west of Tangier up to Cape Espartel through the Montagne. Here it is possible to see eagles and migratory birds heading off, through Spain or back for the winter. Visit the Grottes d’Hercule just 5km south of the lighthouse at Cape Espartel. According to the legend Hercules rested in the caves after having dug the straights between Europe and Africa.
Leaving Tangier, head west along the coast and the mountain road to Ceuta (Ceuta for the locals). There are good views of the sea and it is possible to climb Jebel Musa, facing the Rock of Gibraltar (Jebel Tarik). After lunch, in Tetouan, continue your trip along the coast, passing by the small fishing port of Cabo Negro and then heading towards the mountains to Chefchaouen. This city, founded in 1471, was very isolated until the beginning of the 20th century. At the top of the Rif mountains, Chefchaouen is painted in shades of blue, a precious legacy of the Jewish population that lived there.
Enjoy a day of leisure in Chefchaouen, a haven of peace and tranquility. Discover the medina of Chefchaouen, the quarter silk and wool fabric, the main square with its cafes, and the souks. Maybe bartering for a kilim in the market, where you can get some good deals.
Today you travel through the mountains of the Rif to Fes. The Rif mountains are still relatively unexplored by visitors, partly because they are very remote, and partly because hashish is grown in fields in hidden valleys. However, with your guide and driver, you will be able to relax and enjoy the virgins of Morocco.
The largest and oldest medieval city in the world, the Fes is a hive of bustling and truly fascinating activity. Spend the day exploring this historic city, the souks, the palaces and the views from the museum and the old Kasbah just outside the city walls.
Leaving the city this morning, visit the ancient Roman city of Volubilis, in the foothills of the Middle Atlas mountains. Incredible mosiacs, floodgates, villas and the forum remains – the city is so big that not all has been excavated yet. In the afternoon, visit the city of Moulay Idriss, only open to non-Muslims in recent history and named after the founder of Fez. Spend the night in the imperial city of Meknes.
Leave Meknes, go through the mountains of the Rif and the city of Ksar el-Kbir, return to Tangier. Spend your last night at leisure, time for some last minute souvenir shopping or a nice meal at one of the numerous and delicious restaurants. tours from tangier
